How long is to long to be bleeding post partum?
I am breast feeding only and all the time I might add. Its about 7 weeks since I delivered. I though the bleeding was easing up and ending but this morning after a few days of ovarian pain and very mild uterine pain I have a little blood this morning. This couldn't be my period could it? I thought breastfeeding would prevent this at least until I stopped doing it as much and solids were introduced. Should I be concerned its something else?

I'm almost thirteen weeks post partum, still bleeding, and exclusively breastfeeding my son. My midwife was concerned at first but after several ultrasounds, antibiotics, vaginal exams, etc. etc. she can't figure out why I'm still bleeding and has ruled it as nothing to be worried about yet something to be irritated about lol. I've had continuous cramping and kind of stinging pain along with the bleeding and was instructed to just take Ibuprofen to help. Not all women are lucky enough to have an absencent period while breastfeeding. It could be your menstrual cycle starting back up so I wouldn't rule that out. Keep an eye on it and see.

Don't ever rely on breastfeeding as contraception, because in reality it just doesn't work, and most women that do that end up pregnant. It's not a method of contraception, and it could very well be and probably is your period. Breastfeeding does stop some women's periods, but it doesn't stop all of them from ovulating even,so you could easily become pregnant again. I (after both of my children) had my first period at 4 weeks shortly after the postpartum bleeding stopped.

If it's light and normal, then could be a period.
Breastfeeding has no bearing on it.
That's why you should never rely on it for contraception!
Every one is different any way.
If you get severe pain/symptoms/bleeding.
Then see your Doctor, ASAP.
