I mean like accomplishments that helped the US country, not just Andrew Carnegie.

1. He created a fortune that allowed his to later devote his time and resources to the causes he felt strongly about. He made his money in the steel industry and was thought to be the second richest man in history.
2. Andrew Carnegie donated much of his fortune to fund libraries (about 3,000 of them), schools and universities. We have Andrew Carnegie to thank for the advent of free public libraries. He usually funded the construction of the library is the local community would agree to provide the land and provide operations and maintenance funds.
3. He was the catalyst behind such institutions as Carnegie Mellon Institute, Birmingham University, and more. He was a big benefactor of the Tuskegee Institute.
4. He funded and had constructed 7,000 church organs.
5. He founded and owned Carnegie Hall in New York City.
6. Almost unheard of at the time, he created a pension fund for his thousands of employees giving them financial freedom.
7. He gave away over $350 million (worth a lot more now) by the time he died. The remaining $30 million of his fortune was then given away to various foundations, charities and pensioners.

I don't know who andrew carnegie is but to become a billionaire you would have to be focused, business minded, probably selfish, work orientated... that is all unless you were the inventor of something like the surfboard... it depends really. One billionaire might have got that way by a one off gamble and another by struggling and fighting to get there

In the case of Andrew Carnegie greed, apathy toward others, narcissism, total self absorbtion are personality traits he had and it helped make him rich but he destroyed a lot of lives in the process. He didn't care who he had to step on or who he had to stab in the back to get to the top he was willing to do whatever it took.
