Helmet to helmet...this is getting effin ridiculous?

Samuel's play was helmet to helmet and yet on the opening half kickoff that helmet to helmet wasnt called. Hobbs is clearly hurt. This is ridiculous the NFL needs to call this better. So, if the player is not defenseless you can hit him in the helmet? What do you guys think?

Maybe they should just put skirts on and powder puff this crap.

Update:

Dan...i kind of agree but not really at the same time...sam lead with his shoulder and his helmet just so happened to hit helmet. Hobbs incident was little different the tackler without a doubt lead with helmet no matter his hands by the side or not. Safety shouldnt have so much gray area.

Update 2:

hahaha swk...very true.

I think the idea is that the Giants player had his arms to the side like he was planning to do a proper tackle. The hit was in a crowd of players, and a Giants player had the Eagles player wrapped up (thus altering his speed and direction).

Samuel was one on one, locked on his target, and there was a slight launch into the Giants receiver. You can't call a penalty every time two helmets touch. The game would just become way too yellow and slow and the players would get fed up and play worse. Intentionality is a good line to have for penalties.

I agree, but unfortunatly I don't know what the solution is. We all love the NFL because of the speed, power, and bone rateling hits. If you look at rugby those guys know how to wrap up and tackle without leading head first. But taking the helmets out of the NFL is unrealistic. Maybe they should be taught how to tackle without wearing helmets? I don't know.

The play was legal by the NFL rulebook because he wasnt a defenseless reciever

but i agree with you, its total BS if they want protection go the whole way

What you gotta do is talk to the ball carrier and ask him if its ok to tackle him and if he says yes then you must wrap him up softly and gently sit him on the ground.... That is what the NFL wants from tacklers.
