How often should I change the manual transmission fluid on my 2003 Acura RSX?

How often should I change the manual transmission fluid on my 2003 Acura RSX?

Update:

I have a 2003 Acura RSX w/93k miles and I went to Jiffy Lube for my regular oil change recently and the guy says to me that I need my manual transmission fluid changed. I tell him I'll look into it and come back if I need it done (I keep a repair log at home) since I wasn't sure if I did it already or if I really needed the fluid changed.

I had similar question some time ago ...initially I used search engines to find the answer and saw many different answers from various Acura forums ranging from 10k to 30k miles.

I looked in the owners manual and it says (pages 199 & 201) -- at 120k miles (or 6 years) for normal driving and at 60k & 120k (or at 3 and 6 years) for severe driving conditions.

I took the car to Jiffy Lube and they only do Automatic Transmission Fluid changes and the guy recommended another shop nearby that only does fluid changes and brake jobs.

I call up the other shop and they tell me it's normally 59.99 but they don't carry the fluid which is "Honda Transmission Fluid" and if I go get it myself they will change the fluid for 25$.

From reading several different answers you really do need this special Honda Manual Transmission Fluid which can only be obtained at Honda/Acura dealerships. I recommend calling the Parts departments of several dealerships of both types within nearby driving distances cause the EXACT same item is usually cheaper at Honda dealerships. I got mine for 8.95$

I also called the service department of my local Acura dealership and ask them how often they recommend manual transmission fluid changes and they tell me every 30k miles at 159.99$ - lol.

I wasn't still quite sure how often this should get done and I'm wondering if there have been changes since the car came out, I call Acura directly at 1-800-382-2238, and the guy tells me 120k or 6 years at normal driving conditions as per the manual. So I ask him then why would the dealer tell me 30k miles and he says the dealership might have based their answer based off local driving areas. So I say come on how do you get 30k from 120k ? and he laughs and asks if there is anything else he can do for me today ...

Should be noted the shop that did the work used 2.2 quarts, so getting 3 quarts should be enough. It is apparently somewhat tricky to change the fluid on your own and how much fluid used will be different from mechanic to mechanic.

It should also be noted that if your transmission fluid ever gets BROWN that you have a problem and need to get the fluid changed ASAP.

Change at 120K miles unless severely nasty or evidence of moisture ( creamy gravy brown or light pink color instead of normal oil tan or red ATF color )

They make money by selling services.
