What's the country in Europe that makes a big deal out of baking cookies for Christmas and sharing them?

I read a magazine article in a food magazine about a man whose fiance or girlfriend was Swiss or Swedish or something. And it detailed how there was a big tradition in their country about baking cookies (and probably other desserts) and how they share them with one another. This all happens around Christmas time.

I can't remember what country it was, but I was interested in looking up some of the recipes.

Its huge in Germany, I already made 3 varieties of x-mas cookies and have planned another 3, my mom will make 3-4 and so on. And you then share it with other family and friends.
