Running PC games off an external HDD?

My laptop's hard drive is starting to get full, so I was wondering about moving my PC games off my hard drive and onto an external hard drive. Will this cause a drop in performance for the game, such as a drop in frame rate and longer loading times? My laptop only has USB ports, so I can't use the faster eSATA drives.

Update:

I KNOW how to install games to a different directory other than C:\ and all that, I just want to know if there are any decreases in performance.

you can't just MOVE them into your external HDD you have to do custom settings and set up the installation directory when you first installed them. leaving that HDD permanently attached.

the only thing it will afffect is the load times such as a map or a scene or the opening spashscreen

Loading time will definitely increase, but as performance, their might be some depending on the game.

you can bring your games from your laptop to your other laptop by sending them by your connection in your USB.
