Should the striking Tube workers be sacked?

Unlike the millions of public sector workers - they are not facing any compulsory redundancies- and have the longests holiday, free travel and are better paid than most employees yet they choose to strike every 4 weeks and bring misery to millions of commuters- especially in the present deep freeze. Is it not time to say enough is enough and sack those that are continuously on strike and give the jobs to those that genuinely want to work ?

No I do not think the tube workers should be sacked, they really are sheep in the hands of their Trade Union Officers. Little man that would have got no where but for the gift of the gab and power goes straight to the heads. It would be a good idea if any TU Leaders led their men to strike they should automatically resign after the strike, that way they would find ways without bully boy tactics and no more strikes Many support trade unions because they are frightened what would happen to them if they didn't, by the bloody minded.

    1. Are you aware of exactly what their grievance is?

    2. Who do you propose to replace them with.

    3. Who will train your proposed replacements and how long will that take.

    4. What happens if your fully trained replacements decide to go on strike.

    5. Will your fully trained replacements have any control over the weather conditions

    6. What will happen if the sacked workers decide to disrupt the network and how will you pacify them.

the unions are starting to get too much power again, its the unions throwing fuel onto the fire and goading people to strike. you wont see the union leaders go without this recession. but the nature of recession is for dog to eat dog, mediation has to be entered into. the tubes then the buses then who knows whos next to walk out in support. we cant afford a public holiday for some royals wedding but its being forced on us, we cant afford another days lost commerce and trade for a strike. it may be more productive to mediate

Of course they should be sacked.

They are in breach of contract.

What's the difference between striking and taking an unauthorised holiday.

And they must not be paid from any source.

good question, but i think it would only rub salt into a massive problem, youd be adding fuel to the fire,

  • Not if they have a genuine grievance which i believe they have.
