Does this tip splitting sound fair?

I just went back to work at a restaurant which re-opened under new management. They hired me back, but instead of the minimum wage plus tips I've always made (less tipping out the shift bussers), this new owner puts every tip from every server on every shift in a pool and splits it equally between everyone who worked that day, with no percentage for hours worked, or job description. She calls this "teamwork".

I've always tipped out 10 - 15% to bussers, but the cooks made way more money than servers, and we didn't tip them. I've split tips with other servers on the same shift with me. I have NEVER heard of this "all day, split all ways" arrangement.

I need a job, but I think I'm getting screwed royally. Does anyone else have any experience with this kind of split, or is this as bizarre as I think it is?

If the cooks and dishwashers are included in the tip sharing then that is not legal. It's only legal to share tips with other service employees, such as bartenders and bussers. I would call the labor board. This site is very informative regarding tip sharing.

How are the pointers acquired? If there's a jar at the counter for coins pointers, and pointers are further at the bank card slip, I feel this will have to be shared three methods, however pointers honestly passed to you will have to be stored for your self. If this can be a new trade, they're most likely now not even incomes up to you do. They are most likely hanging all of the gains again into the trade. Do you earn a reasonable salary? Are they fine to you? Do you intend to stick there many years? Could you make more money running someplace else in which you get to hold your possess pointers? When you get interviewed for jobs it will sound petty when you ask what the top procedure is, and when you do get the braveness to invite, then later down the road the procedure can difference on the proprietor's whim besides. When I used to waitress, we used to hold our pointers for ourselves after which the kitchen fingers could whinge they did not get tipped. Some waitresses bought tons of pointers and a few none. It relied on their bra dimension. I feel it makes the night time extra interesting while this can be a gamble among the employees to look who will get tipped essentially the most. When the consumers begin to go away on the finish of the night time and the pointers begin coming in and any individual will get $50 from one buyer, this can be a bit disconcerting to ought to percentage it with a further employees member who you do not even like. But then the following night time it possibly that different employees member getting $50. Anyway this can be a spice up to the ego to look that you've been tipped plenty. The eating place has to do its side too cos consumers who're continuously instructed they cannot have this or that that they ordered an hour in the past, cos it has now run out, good, they do not tip.

    No that's crap..

If you happen to do an amazing job and it was a huge table for a birthday or something and they give you a $50 tip that should be mostly yours!!

Especially if there's someone ((and there always is!!)) that does a crap job that gets pennies and sad faces on the bill..

You should definitely try to talk to management about it in a very VERY sweet way and discuss your concerns.

    Hopee I helped!!(:

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. What motivates anyone to do a good job if the tip they make isn't given to them personally? That's ridiculous. I wouldn't work there.

A LOT of restaurants split tips that way.

Is it fair? I don't think so. Is there anything you can do about it? Not unless you want to start looking for another job.

I personally don't agree with it at all. The slackers don't have motivation since they know they'll still get tips. I always told my help that all their tips were theirs, they have to work for them.

It isn't something I have heard of before.

It's one of those things where it's the boss who makes the rules, and I guess it will be one of those things you have to see how it works to see if you are coming out ahead or not.
