In 1995, the Republicans forced a showdown with President Clinton on the budget that shut down the government. Clinton refused to budge, and ultimately the Republicans lost, and Clinton used that momentum to coast to a victory in the presidential elections of 1996.
Obama is playing a losing strategy if he throws in the towel, and plays "McFly." People expect leadership and activism from their presidents, and if Obama fails to deliver, he's a one term president for sure.
As one who's observed American Presidential politics for many decades, I've never seen a more amateurish group of advisers than the people Obama has chosen to surround himself with.
