Knowing Human nature, does anyone think this kind of thinking is potentially dangerous?

“Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.”

Yes it could be, but only if other people believe the statement. It is ironic that he wants people to believe this statement when it starts 'believe nothing'

I guess it depends on the person and how you take the meaning of the quote. I take it that you shouldn't just accept what you are told but be willing to critically analyze it and consider the evidence and if it makes actual sense and meshes with what you know. I think that is sound advice. Of course the ability to do that well varies from person to person and their particular biases and background color it as well. I still think its a good idea generally though and an improvement over just believe what you are told regardless which seems the alternative. For some people though I think agreeing with your own common sense equates to jibing with what they emotionally want to believe or think and then its more dangerous. Those people were likely to do that anyway though.

That depends. It's dangerous if an individual doesn't have a good sense of self-reasoning. However, if a person can reason well enough, then they don't need to believe what they hear. But that's definitely a destructive thing.

It could be dangerous for the person who thinks it. Also, the "common sense" angle is disturbing.

It's only dangerous if the person thinking that way is an idiot.

If they actually possess reason and common sense, it's fine.

well it kinda depends on the situation. like if you're gonna jump off a cliff when people tell you you're gonna die and you don't listen, well then you're dead. but if it's like believing that you can become like an actress or writer or whatever and people have told you that you won't make it, then there is nothing wrong with believing that you can make it.

The first part is okay, but the end part, "...unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.", should read, "...unless there is verifiable evidence to support your claim."

Yes. This means, in effect, don't tell me what to do, I don't have to listen unless I want to.
