Why did nearly all Republicans vote NO to extend tax cuts for those making 250K and less?

Why would they vote "no" for this?

I make 160,000 a year and I own a small metal fab shop in West Chicago IL.

Should I not get a tax cut, but someone who makes 650,000 a year as a corporate CEO should?

I own my own company, and I employ people.

The guy who is the CEO works as a corporate CEO for a publicly traded company, and a tax cut for him would not affect his hiring practices either way, because his company is much bigger than mine, and his personal taxes do not account for any hiring.

However, the corporate tax rate will remain unchanged in either case. These are OUR PERSONAL TAXES. I don't mind paying more in taxes, as I live pretty good, (my wife also makes 80,000 a year.)

Why should republicans only support the real rich people, but vote no when an extension of the tax cuts for me?

Can't they re-introduce a tax cut for the rich when they get into power, instead of holding my tax cuts, and the rest of the tax cuts, and the whole government hostage?

Why do they act like spoiled children, and demand that everyone do only as they want, or else they will block all government from working?

As to why, I'm not all that sure except to feather their own nests in some way and play bullyboy obstructionist roles that make no sense for this nation's well-being. Small businesses, President Obama has stated repeatedly, are the HIRING ENGINES for this nation's economy---if they do well they hire more people, and those hired people then pay taxes (revenue for the U.S.) and spend their earnings, thus growing this Republican-SHRIVELED economy! A vote against the middle-class tax cuts is a vote AGAINST this nation's full recovery! Their EXTORTION tactics should FAIL---I really hope President Obama stands FIRM on his rejection of the $700-added-to-deficit Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 2%! Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is worth more than $49 MILLION on a life-long Senator's salary---and he filibustered UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE EXTENSTIONS. Bottom line is Republicans are only interested in themselves and NOT in what is good for the American people or the American economy.

Dufus.......We need Tax Cuts extended for all. We do not have a healthy economy and those rich people invest in the market, create jobs, give big donations to charity etc. We need to get the money moving not stagnate it anymore.

Don't worry though....the new people are not in office yet and on Jan.2 they will work to get you your tax cut so you can hire and expand your business.

P.S. Why did the Dems lock out the Republicans on the Health Care Control Bill? By the way CEO's and very wealthy people pay 40% of the entire tax burden. Then those corporations also pay huge amount of taxes. Why did many go overseas?

Leave it to a mindless liberal sheep to it's some great noble act to oppose.. 1) Establish maximum achievable control technology standards, performance standards, and other requirements under the Clean Air Act; and 2) Identify non-hazardous secondary materials that, when used as fuels or ingredients in combustion units of such industry and plants are solid waste under the Solid Waste Disposal Act for purposes of determining the extent to which such combustion units are required to meet the emissions standards under the Clean Air Act.

The reason they denied it is not because they don't want to give tax cuts to the middle class its because they want tax cuts for everyone. The theory is that since upper class tax bracket is comprised of the countries biggest consumers it would be better to allow them to spend their money and stimulate our damaged economy. Most Republicans subscribe the theory of reaganomics, google it if you want to know more.

Because nobody should get a tax increase in this economy.

Why are Democrats jeopardizing my tax rate in their insistence on taxing some people more?

If the cut off between "rich" and the rest of us was $1,000,000 I may agree that these people should not have tax cuts extended.

But $250,000 is way too close to middle class.

Well, most congressmen constituents are in the higher range, so it should make sense why they would vote to extend them there. But no one under 250k is capable of contributing a large enough sum to a congressmen to make a true difference.

That is the "almost" bribery angle, but there are others, such as: if there are tax cuts for people under 250k, then who will pay for the huge gap we could have filled with those who make over 250k?

    Because they *are* spoiled children.

They're not even hiding their recalcitrance and obstinacy any more, having just issued at statement announcing that they will not vote for any bills until the tax cuts for the rich are kept.

Although it has been pointed out that this is really nothing new; it's been their policy since 2008 to say no to everything coming from the administration. You know, "It'll be his Waterloo," and "The single most important thing we want to accomplish is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

You know, nothing about helping the country.

Unlike the left wing's approach, the republicans are not interested in having class warfare. They want the law applied across the board and are fighting to get just that. The phrasing of your question demonstrates the bias associated with the issue. It's time to stop the divisive games and work together to solve problems instead of making up excuses and misrepresentations about the facts.

because Republicans are hypocritical con-artists who represent BIG BUSINESSES. So many fools in the middle class are still under the impression that republicans are for them. They ARE NOT! They appear so only to gather your votes, and once in office they abandon the middle class. This has been demonstrated if not by previous republican administrations, then by BUSH. You people will never learn your lesson.

Because they are asking that all people receive tax cuts, not just those making under $250,000.

A tax cut might not effect a corporate CEO of a large company, but it would effect a small business owner who brings in just over $250,000. As a small business owner, you must be aware that the money you bring in goes to expanding yoru business as well as personal finances. The government doesn't tax what you decide to give yourself as a salary and that's all....they tax it all as your income.
