Why are purses and handbags so damned expensive?

Whether it is $40 or $4,000, prices of handbags have really skyrocketed! I would say that the reason for the price increase is just the current state of economics around the world. Price of materials, labor (Third world countries where a vast majority of handbags including the designer labels are manufactured) and manufacturing (actual making of the bag and shipping) contribute the price hikes. You are not alone in your sentiments! I feel the same way!

Not all purses and handbags are expensive. As far as name brand purses such as Coach, Dooney and Bourke, Juicy Couture, Gucci, Prada, Fendi, etc. will all be expensive but there are stores where you can get nice handbags for cheap. Other places you can get handbags for a lower price are Macy's, Herbergers, Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, etc. You just have to look around.

wow, $43 is cheap for a handbag, my mum got me a big prada handbag costing $5000 and my dad got me a louis vuitton small purse that costed around $1800.

Because fools out there are willing to pay it. Two or three hundred for a purse or a pr. of jeans. Fashion is all. Herd mentality.

It is because of what type of material they use. Such as leather, alligator skin/ any other animal skin, suede, etc. The fabric can last longer, as well.
