When going for a PhD, does one need a Master's Degree in the same discipline?

I am currently in the process of transferring universities (I am applying to multiple universities). Once I transfer, I plan on pursuing a BA in Persian language & literature, if I choose to attend a school that offers such a degree. At the other schools to which I'm applying, I am applying to complete a BA in Near Eastern Studies. I don't know of any US schools which have graduate programs in specifically Persian lang & lit-- many seem to offer Master's Degrees, and PhDs in Near Eastern Studies, however.

My question is, if I were to get a BA in Persian, would I be able to apply to a graduate program in Near Eastern Studies, in order to receive a Master's or PhD? Does my bachelor's degree need to be in the same discipline as the higher degree, or would I be able to pursue another degree in a closely related discipline?

Thank you for your help.

Update:

I'm interested in continuing my education beyond a BA for its own sake, not primarily to be more competitive in the job market.

You need to research the websites of the graduate programs which interest you.

You may need some additional classes outside your major for many graduate programs in Near Eastern Studies, particularly Hebrew or Arabic language.

of direction you may- provided your college gives you grasp's ranges in the two disciplines. you will in all probability could desire to be conscious to each application one by one and be admitted by potential of every person. as properly, you will in all probability could desire to fulfill ALL adacemic standards of the two courses. despite if some colleges enable for many of the coursework in one application to count variety in the direction of electives in the different. this could usually shrink the type of finished instructions mandatory for the two ranges by potential of two or 3 instructions. the biggest constraint would be getting the appropriate instructions on the appropriate time and interior the appropriate sequence.
