Is it normal to lose your appetite after birth?

I have given birth 8 days ago. I haven't wanted to eat much since. I hate a bunch right after but didn't want anything. Lately I do get hungry but I don't want anything. Today I haven't eaten yet which is not healthy since the human body needs 3 meals a day but I'm just not hungry. I was wondering if this was normal and if my appetite will come back?

Update:

ate* a bunch

    Congratulations !

With all the hormone changes your body is now going thru, there is no "normal". Give your body time to recover and I bet your appetite will return. In the meantime you may need to drink some Insure or Boost type products to stay healthy.

Yes, it's totally normal! I think it took me a good month or two to get back to a normal eating schedule! I was just so tired & exhausted all the time that I just chose sleep over eating most of the time! I made sure my daughter ate, though...it seemed like she gained weight while I lost it, lol!! I would eat *maybe* one meal a day (if I felt like it), but for the most part, I just nit-picked here & there in the beginning!! After I got my daughter in a sleeping routine & I started sleeping better myself, my appetite definitely came back & I started eating again!! Don't worry, you'll get back to normal here soon!!

Your body just may be adapting or dealing. Your entire body has gone through extreme major changes. I wouldn't worry unless you feel something's wrong. I didn't have much of an appetite the first day. Until the 3rd day from breastfeeding. Then I was more hungry from breastfeeding then when I was pregnant!

As a new mom it is common to not be hungry or find time to eat and trust me yes your hunger will come back with avengance especially if you breastfeed... That's why new moms gain weight after the baby is about 3 or 4 months old...

It is COMPLETELY NORMAL. : ) I would not worry. You just gave birth to a beautiful baby and your body is undergoing many different changes. If it persists longer than another week of two I would definitely go and see a doctor just to make sure everything is going alright. I wish you the best of luck. : )
