Is This Heat Exhaustion Or Something Else?

I've had this for a while, during the summer I get dizziness, light headed and a feeling of being sick. I also feel a lack of engery, even after a meal. About 3 times I've fainted during the heat, the last one a few weeks ago. I feel very dizzy and unstable on my feet then I black out and don't even know I have just passed out. Last time I was out for about 10mins. Or if I've been sitting down or bending over, I get up quickly and feel light headed.

I'm thinking it would be best that I see a doctor. But you know you get nervous about it and don't get around to booking a time. So I'm searching around for some kind of answer. My family has suggested it might be high blood pressure, it runs in the family. I'm not sure.

I'd like a proper answer, and if I can find a way to stop it happening.

Some things that may help, I'm 19 no other medical problems, expect maybe weight (105kg) I live in Australia during the summer when I get this the temp is usually about 28-35 degrees.

If I think of other things I'll post them.

This sounds like you are dehydrated-not drinking enough water. Yes it could be you have a hard time with heat. Our bodies need a lot of water during hot times of year. Any of us will or can get dizzy by getting up too quick. When you do begin to get up from sitting or lying down-get up slowly and stand in one spot for a minute. Yes, you should see a Dr. if this keeps happening.

First off, you want to clear out the obvious as problems and that requires a doctors visit for a routine checkup. Several cardiac, circulatory and endocrine problems could be at issue and you can only get answers by having a doctor run some tests.

If you're really hellbent on avoiding a doctor, you can think about some things in the meanwhile.

You're young so you generally shouldn't be unhealthy.

You're a bit heavy and live in a very hot climate and heavy people don't physically do well in very warm weather. It's a question of insulation. Heavier people generate more heat and cool down slower. Make sure you wear very light clothing and avoid being in the heat for any length of time. Try to keep your outdoor activity in the water as water helps keep the body cool.

Also, examine your lifestyle. Typically, around your age, you start feeling the effects of a poor lifestyle that your younger self may have been able to get away with. Ensure that your diet is good. Little processed foods and more lean protein sources and fruit and vegetables. Ensure that you get some kind of exercise every day but do it when it's cooler like at night and/or in the water.

    Good luck.

While you're probably better by now, just some info in case this happens again: It was most likely heat exaustion, or a slim possibility of heat stroke. For heat exaustion just try and slow down, sit in an air conditioned room/car, drink water slowly (too much and you'll vomit) and if you're going to get wet, don't make the water too cold otherwise the shock of the cold water could send you into shock. There's on easy way to tell the difference between Heat Exaustion and Stroke: Are you sweating? If you are, it's heat exaustion. Heat stroke occurs when the body is unable to cool itself down and starts shutting down systems in reaction to the over heating. This normally includes your digestion, ability to cool yourself (sweat), and often impairs your vision, hearing, and other sences. If you ever stop sweating or pass out yet know you are still very hot, seek medical help IMEDIATELY. This is a life thretening condition, and there's no joking around with it. If you're with someone else, have them take you to a hospital AS SOON AS POSSIBLE while turning the air conditioner as cold as it goes and drinking cold water VERY slowly (We're talking a few drops at a time, since too much water will make you throw up). If you're by yourself, call someone nearyby to come and pick you up or if that's not a possibility call 911 and tell them you might have heat stroke. However, you shouldn't be alone in the first place with heat stroke. Victims often times pass out, and it's extreamly difficult to call 911 if your unconcious.
