What exactly is anorexia? Is my sister anorexic?
I always thought anorexia was when someone thought they were fat and would starve themselves to lose weight
Today I was told that an anorexic is someone with a B.M.I of 17.5 and under. Hmmm
My sisters got a B.M.I of about 16. something but she eats - a lot. Is she considered anorexic?

Haha anorexia is when a person has this mental image of themselves and sees nothing but fat. So they exercise an insane amount to burn off calories, and refuse to eat. Some signs would be her hair faling out [not going actually bald but you'd see a noticable amout of thinning], her period being extremely irregular and short and/or stopping completely, making excuses in the morning to your parents like, i had a big lunch or ill eat at school, and she wants to get 'fitter'. [if sh runs alot and is exercising more, along with one or more of the signs id talk to your parents, and in case they just CANT beleive that, the school counselor. i would tell her what you think but if she really is she'll be convinced that she needs to be doing this and your not going to get through to her...]

No, anorexia, or anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder is when a person refuses to gain weight by distorted self body image. The person will starve themselves or eat very little of foods, mostly low in, fat, carbs, or calories. They will also obsessively exersise. It gives the person a sort of sense of control, most people who have suffered from anorexia , or are experiencing tragedy in their lives from anything such as loss to bullying. Most anorexia sufferers find it hard to stop and if your sister were to be anorexic you should get her help imediateally.
Your sister could be bulimic perhaps. This is when a person will binge and then later force themselves to vomit up the food. People suffering from bulimia also will become very underweight and sometimes will use laxatives or weight loss pills too. If your sister is bulimic she may suffer from:
Gastric reflux
Constipation
Oral problems
Bad breath
Rapid weight loss and gain
Sore throat/ Esophageal problems...
She may also spend a lot of time in the bathroom after eating. The easiest way to find out though will be to ask your sister yourself, and if she is then make sure that you support her and get her immediate help.

No, whoever told you that is wrong. Anorexia nervosa is a psychological disorder in which someone sees themselves as fat or has a terrible fear of gaining any weight, so they starve themselves or exercise like crazy to keep it off and it is super unhealthy.
As long as your sister is eating and keeping the food down, she doesn't have an eating disorder. Bulimia involves eating a lot of food, binge eating, and then throwing up, which also causes someone to lose a lot of weight and can end up damaging their internal organs pretty badly.
So, I think your sister is fine. Some people are just thinner than others. It's not an indicator of anorexia.
An amazing video of an example of anorexia:

No anorexic is when you eat little to nothing because you view yourself as fat. A lot of the time, anorexic people are tiny but still view themselves as obese.
They're not necessarily underweight, but they're heading that way.
Anorexia is a serious disorder not o be taken lightly.
Your sister is fine as long is she's eating proper foods and keeping it down.
Hope I helped! :D

I have been anorexic for around 2 years now, and am now in recovery. I was deathly afraid of eating and gaining weight. It terrified me that every calorie I ate, was another to burn off. I was also diagnosed with exercise addiction, which came from the fear of gaining weight. It became an obsession. It was constantly on my mind. I would always be thinking of my next meal, how much I would eat, and how I would hide that I wasn't eating. Eating gave me geat anxiety. My mom would pour me cereal, and I would pretend to eat it in my room, and then flush it down my toilet. Lunch was easy, there was no one to tell me to eat. Dinner was another story, my parents got on my case about it after a while. Once I began to struggle, it was out of my hands.
So.... no, you're sister is NOT anorexic.

No, that's wrong.
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder. It's when a person will starve themselves or exercise in ridiculous amounts because they think they are fat and have a fear of gaining any kind of weight.
Usually, they have a warped sense of their body. What they see as fat, everybody else sees as extremely underweight.
Your sister is not anorexic. She is simply underweight.

Both of ya are pretty, But she does look pretty thin for a 17 year old but she is still pretty. And you look pretty as well, You look better in weight. You don't look like your sister because you have a curvier and chunkier body than your sister does. I hope she is not anorexic, 2 pretty for that. =\

There is much more to a diagnosis of anorexia nervosa than what you noted. read up on it.
It is a self harm disorder that reflects an unhealthy body image and self destructive behaviors that are directed to the body to fit the unhealthy image, which is not achievable. It involves poor diet, possible forced vomiting, a refusal to maintain normal body weight, and much more.
Talk with her and with your parents. If there is an issue, or not, talking about it is the right and healthy thing to do.

She is definitely not anorexic if she eats a lot.
Anorexia:
When you look in the mirror and feel like you are so fat (when you aren't) and you force your body to vomit all food that goes in to loose weight and in some cases eat nothing.
I'm not anorexic and my BMI is 14.9.
I'm just extremely underweight. But I don't think i'm fat at all but I don't want to gain weight. I like my weight.
Source(s): Underweight = <18.5 Normal weight = 18.5–24.9 Overweight = 25–29.9 Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater - 1 decade ago
She could be anorexic... I know people who have hidden eating disorders for years. Could she be bulimic? It's hopefully just a fast metabolism!
