Power steering problems?
I got my power steering fixed last year, but one of the parts failed, so my car is leaking power steering fluid. Today when I was driving my Check engine light went on. My car otherwise runs perfectly fine. Would my check engine light go on if my power steering fluid is low, and the part has failed? I'm not a car person, so I don't know the answer
I drive a 2005 chevy impala
I have an appointment to get it fixed thursday, I just thought I'd ask
My oil light isn't on to the guy who had an irrelevant answer
I know that it's the power steering part that was replaced because last week my car was in the shop for an oil change and to check my power steering bc it was leaking, they had to order the part so I've been waiting a week.

Yes it will and if the car is harder to steer especially at low speeds when the wheel is turned all the way. But you may not have lost enough to get that low just enough to have the light come on.

No it wouldn't the fluid leak and check engine light are two totally different problems. And you don't have to take it to the dealer as one answer suggests, but at the same appt for your power steering leak they should be able to do a diagnostics on the check engine light and tell you the cause and fix it also.

yes low or no power steering fluid can cause the check engine light to come on, their is a power steering pressure sensor on the car, u can follow the lines from the power steering pump to locate it, if its not sensing any fluid or pressure it can make the light come on, i would go and have it scanned to get the code and see for sure.hope this helps.

the computer is not watching the power steering system. any thing that is emission or electronic, it will but since the power steering on that is hydraulic, that is not watched. you could check and fill the power steering to get through to your appointment. the check engine light is something else though.

hi no longer countless information right here! If the steerage is heavy then verify the fluid point. If the point is okay then run the engine with the potential steerage cap off and look ahead to any bubbles of air rising from the fluid. If bubbles look and there at the instant are not any leaks then you definately prefer a sparkling pump. Cheers Geordie

The check engine light may not be related to the fluid level in the power steering reservoir.
Traditionally when the oil light comes on your engine is already a boat anchor.

go to your nearest Autozone and have them check it out, they will tell you what caused the light to turn on, and may give you advice on fixing the power steering.
