Air Force contract Question...PLEASE HELP!?

I have been going through the motions when it comes to joining the AF. I processed through MEPS at the end of September. When it came time to pick my top 5 jobs, I listed 5 JOBS that I would be interested in.

Yesterday, My recruiter called and says, "Good news, we've got you a ship date." I asked what job would I be placed into. She said I would be going down under the General Aptitude Index, which means that when I get down there, they will put me in whatever job they want to as long it is under the general aptitude index.

I told her that I never put that down on the list, which I didnt because Gen Apt Index is NOT a JOB.

I am Extremely skeptical about this and then she is pressuring me like crazy saying that If I don't sign the contract then I will be discharged from the DEP and I will never be able to join the Air Force again. This is ridiculous to me that the whole time I've been going through the processes, I have been told that I will get 1 of the 5 jobs and then she's telling me that's not happening. I got 91 on ASVAB, 108 on DLAB and I was trying to become a lynguist (which they said were in high demand).

1. Is this situation right?

2. Am I able to refuse to sign this contract and wait for one of my JOBS to come up?

Please help me out

Your recruiter is lying to you. There are two contracts for the AF: the DEP contract and the Actual Contract (this is the one that really counts!). You could either choose to wait for a job to come through or talk to the other branches or get a discharged. If you do, I think you can reapply after six months but they will be stricter with you. I am in DEP for the AF and waiting for a job. If you waited for a year and nothing comes up, then you can opt for a DEP discharge.

If they are not offering you a job you want, you don't have to sign. You won't be discharged from the DEP, because you're not even officially in the DEP until you sign the contract.

If you do sign, you can always try to change your contract while in DEP. And if it does not get changed, you can still back out before shipping, and try again.

I would just wait to sign until they offer you the right jobs. Just don't be intimidated by the recruiter, and stand your ground.

    Good Luck

Your recruiter is trying to send you to fill a spot that she needs to make her mission. Stand your ground and tell her that you will not ship unless you get one of the jobs you want. It may take awhile but you'll still get what you want. Don't let her bully you in any way. You can still join the air force if you don't go GA. Seriously, she will threaten you all that she can but if you say let me talk to your boss she will stop. It is against regs for them to do that to you. Oh and its spelled Linguist.
