Why are so many religious people intolerant of other religions?

_SOME_ folks that follow _SOME_ religions have the mind set suggesting there is only one 'true' religious path & naturally they believe their personal interpretation of their religious texts is the only one. It's called Ethnocentrism & is dangerous.

So with this as a foundation there's two observations.

Those who believe there's only one path (their's) feel any suggestion this is wrong is a threat to their lifestyle/way of thinking/culture/colour/sexuality/etc & are automatically very defensive sometimes even aggressive or violent.

ALSO many think that anyone who believes differently are foolish/ignorant/evil/etc and are not deserving of respect. Meaning they do not see any reason in educating themselves about the ways of stupid people.

Until they recognizes just how abusive this attitude is, I honestly don't think there's any chance of change. To Humanity is being held ransom from the actions of a handful of bigots & frankly I refuse to let Bigots win.

You are not condemned to hell... True christians would not tell you that ! They are not your judge ! God is ! They cannot speak for God ! God has demonstrated throughout the bible his word that the gay life style is not acceptable with him. God created the first marriage in the garden of eden with adam and eve which were male and female. That is his example of what a marriage should be. Some time in the future you will come to know God either in this life or the next but it will be God's choice. I respect you belief as an atheist but park it for a moment, grab up a bible and read Ezekiel 37:12-14 as this maybe your future. God states that you will then know him and believe me you will ! No man can condemn you ! Only God can do that and he will only do that if you totally reject him after you get to know him.

I apologize for all the people specially Christians that have cut you off for this particular situation. I feel sorry for the people that use the name of God or any other belief in order to justify their need to hate others. Remember that humans don't need a reason or opportunity to single out people for whatever reason. I don't think that is wrong to love another human being even if it is from the same sex. After 34 years, a college education and being versed in bible studies for over 23 years I don't pretend to know what God thinks or wants. I am in no position to judge you sweetie, as long as you can open your heart to love, be loved you are in your way.

As an atheist I am intolerant of any religion, but especially of Islam which cannot seem to make up its mind whether it wants to be a religion, a legal system or a political system, or in some countries all three at once. Islamophobia is GOOD!

third, people feel the need to believe in something bigger than them so they can rationalize their lives away. It worked wonders for the Roman Empire I must say. But honestly, in many cases, the religious are bigots in lesser or greater degrees

Wouldn't never say that to anyone , I or is anyone else the judge , nor do I think its a sin to be gay . I am sorry you have to deal with people like that .

For the muslim above me . You don't have to, they are free to do as they please . Gays Rock why don't you stop hateing on them ?

The thing I would challenge you to do is to NOT react to all the hate since that is the object of their beliefs.

oh, religon does strange things to people, warps their sense of right and wrong and makes them see flaws in that which is perfect. like love, they find a flaw in that same sex couples can love one another despite the fact it is perfect.
