Onset of labour or wishful thinking?
I am 38+1 with my first baby so please excuse my ignorance here! Well meaning family and friends have made me a little paranoid that I will have my baby before his due date so I am permanently on the look-out for signs. Yesterday, I just felt really off colour like I was coming down with something. I slept for a lot of the day, was quite lethargic and just didn't feel quite right. Today I feel a little better, although still not quite 'with it' but I feel quite cold and I have that on-off dull ache in my lower abdomen and back that I usually get just before my period starts. I have been to the toilet today so am ruling out constipation (sorry if that is tmi) and I have just changed into looser trousers in case the cramps were because they were a little snug to see if it makes a difference. The head is fully engaged. Did anyone else feel like this before labour started or do you think I am reading too much into everything? Any thoughts/experiences greatly appreciated x

i got a similar thing a week before i went into labour i was so tired and felt like i had the flu but i didnt, its usually a good sign when you get this because your body is gtting prepared for labour so it shouldnt be too long but remember most babies go overdue so dont get your hopes up until you go into labour good luck.

you are probrobly in the very very beggining stages, and 38 weeks is not ealrly 37+ is term. You probrobly wont have the baby (if it is labour) for the next few days so ge some rest, go on walks and lean fowards to get the baby in a good position. You wont go into labour if you feel tired so plenty of healthy foods and rest! If you are concerned its better to get checked out. Make sure you have good fetal movements and if you dont then get checked out by your midwife. You may start to loose mucus down bellow (it looks like someone has snotted in your pants) this is also normal....good luck

I started with an uncomfortable achy feeling on and off low down a couple of days before i went properly into labour. Very slowly got more regular and intense, i only realised what was happening when the friend i was with pointed out i was getting uncomfortable every 20 minutes the next day.

It definately must be the onset of early labour or it must be your physique making waiting for labour. My midwife advised me that contained concerning early labour it generally comes on speedy and severe. besides the incontrovertible fact that except you're particular which you're in labour i might wait till your appointment day after today. you would be retaining your toddler precise away!!

As your babys head is engaged, that's a good sign.
it really is impossible to say when your baby will come.
And the symptoms you have may mean nothing at all.
Cramps can be normal.
You may just not be feeling very well, so make sure you get plenty of rest.
You are going to need all your energy.
Don't lay on your back, left side only.
Drink lots of water.
Good luck x
