what is wrong with my washing machine it will fill and empty but the drum will not spin?

i checked the brushes but these are fine is it the motor or the switch

Update:

the belt is fine changed it a couple of months ago

    This is due to a malfunction in the engine. Possible troubleshoots for this problem could include various expositions. You may first want to call the manufacterer and beat the **** out of them because they probably included a faulty motor. If they refuse to send ou the interchangable part, take it back to where you baught it from.

    Several reasons - if you can hear the motor running in all probability the driving belt has broken or come off ; if the motor doesn't run then something has gone wrong with the electrical system

    This may be due to faulty motor or the belt that rotates the drum may be loose or broken
