AFSC Contract - Can I decide to back out day before Basic?

Hi, I received a contract under General Aptitude Area. It is not what I really wanted, but I was thinking of signing it because there are 4 months until the ship date (April 12). I specifically told that recruiter that I want a guaranteed job and she said over the next 4 months, if one comes up that was on my list I would get that and someone else in line would take my contract.

I'm all about serving the country but I would back out in April if my contract still said "General" on it

Is this possible to do? Because technically I am still in the DEP

Should have joined either the Army or Navy, then you wouldn't be on a "Waiting list" hoping to get the job of your dreams. (Typical Air Farce bait & switch tactics)

PS: You can drop out all the way up to taking the Oath for the second time, but not after.

Can you back out ? yes you can

Will there be consequences ? yes there will be

You can pretty much forget about enlisting in the Air Force for awhile, 6 months to a year, if you back out of DEP

    2. Actually if your general area score is good, you have a better chance of getting the AFSC you want , in basic, than at MEPS

60% of all jobs, are reserv4ed to be assigned during basic training, by those enlisting under an open area contract ( general, admin, elect, mech )

Everyone signs up under General. but you choose an MOS now, with your recruiter. I recommend not backing out and looking like a coward (that's how everyone will see you) and if you're in an MOS that you're not happy with, switch after basic. i'm not sure how it works with af, but with he Marines, If there is 1 slot open for a particular MOS, and an active duty Marine wants to switch to that MOS, and an Applicant for the Marines wants that MOS, the active duty Marine gets that priority and the Applicant/Poolee has to keep looking and hope to switch to it later. Your Liason at MEPS dont like to deal with people that back out and then decide to enlist later. whatever you're most comfortable with, do it. don't live to please others, but since you don't seem to have already enlisted, you have no real obligation and nothing to lose other than your pride and opinion of your recruiters and other applicants around you
