Did Senate Republicans say to 9/11 First Responders, Police, Firefighters: Drop Dead?
Republican senators blocked Democratic legislation on Thursday that sought to provide medical care to rescue workers and residents of New York City who became ill as a result of breathing in toxic fumes, dust and smoke from ground zero.
They've been wailing about a Muslim Center near Ground Zero as somehow desecrating 'holy ground', but have no problem stabbing the heroes of that day in the back.
Are you outraged?
No matter what source you look for the news is the same: Senate Republicans blocked passage of the legislation.
Apparently some of you don't understand the procedures of the United States Senate. It required 60 votes to get to the floor for a vote. All 42 Republicans voted against it. The Dems don't have 60 U.S. Senators so the bill fails. Get informed.
They can demand and support a tax cut for the 3% of American households that make over $250k which will cost $700+ Billion over 10 years, but block passage of a bill that would care for heroes that would have cost less than one tenth of that. Yeah, I see what their priorities are quite clearly.

I can't say I am outraged because this is typical of Republicans. They only want their tax cuts and then they want to eliminate all spending programs even if they are needed and morally correct. Because this 9/11 health care bill goes against the new party mantra of spending cuts, they block passage even though passing the bill is the right thing to do. Let's face it, it is painfully obvious to me that if there were no democrats standing up for social security and medicare Republicans would get rid of those programs, creating a welfare class consisting of elderly. Corporate welfare would replace looking out for the welfare of people in need which consist of the elderly, the disabled, and disabled vets.
Where my outrage lies is the Democrats giving everything to Republicans just to gain unemployment extensions. My outrage increased after reading that the Democrats didn't insist on the passage of the 9/11 health care bill as well. How could they let that slide? If they insisted on the health care bill it might of been considered a win for both parties. So, not only did Obama lose his tax code agenda but he lost his agenda to help those first responders on 9/11. The Democrats should be embarrassed. All this is happening while the Democrats still hold a healthy majority. Imagine what the Republicans will pull in the next congress where they hold a majority? If I was elderly I would be very nervous right now.

Yes. They did indeed. But do you expect anything different from Republicans?
Why would such hateful, vile people do ANYTHING good for "the" people. The only people they know about are the wealthy. The rest of the country and everyone in it can rot for all they care.
I think if/when the House and Senate Democrats don't pass their bill for more tax cuts for the wealthy, as sickening as the Republicans already are, they'll finally destroy what's left of this country and will remind Americans why they were voted out to begin with and they won't have a second chance. I want to see smoke coming out of the ears of Republican politicians and we'll see them nastier than we thought possible, as will the rest of the country. Hopefully by 2012, their grave will be done being prepared and all they'll have to do is just jump in and we can say goodbye to the worst Republican politicians in modern day history.
Hopefully their constituents will jump in right after them.

Yeah I'm pissed about it. The rescue workers (not only the American ones but also the foreign ones such as the Mexican, French, Canadian, British, Russian, etc) should be thanked and treated as heroes.

No. The Republicans said it is a state issue. NY State has the most generous benefits in the nation. Look it up. Then look up the pensions, disability, etc and you will find that NY is beyond generous. That was a political ploy to get people like you all fired up. Works every time.
NY Times? I'll give you a cookie if you can find the word DEMOCRAT in this article. I read the paper often, and they throw the word republican all over the page any time this sort of thing happens. The bias is unbelievable. Ask these idiot liberals why Upstate NY cities have 30% poverty and always on the rise? Could it be our massive tax burden? Highest in the nation. Great for keeping jobs here.

IRIS: Teachers, Firefighters and police are some of the highest paid professions here in NY, and they get a pension and health care from age 55. They are also allowed to increase that pension through overtime in the last 3 years. many collect larger pensions than their salaries. What is the matter with liberals? Don't any of you know anything? What are you reading?

They are just beginning to keep giving money to their 'PAC friendly millionaires'. They also said no to giving social security recipients the $250 one time payment instead of COLA for 2 years.
It looks like the Dems are following in their footsteps, saying no extension of unemployment benefits, not tax cuts and no reduction in payroll taxes. No jobs in our future.
The lobbyists have their monkeys well trained.
Do you think we have another great world wide depression coming?

Yes.
I don't understand why this surprises so many people.
The Republicans have never cared about the less fortunate or even the heroes of 9/11; only themselves and their wealthy cronies.

Considering democrats passed paygo. They probably skipped th at and now there is no way to pay for this. You need to learn some reading comprehension
"Republicans have been raising concerns about how to pay for the $7.4 billion measure,"

As with any newspaper there is more to the story than that. They dont say what else the Dems tacked on to that bill. A lot of times there will be things tagged on that are not good and THAT is why it will get voted down. Do your research.

NYTimes? hahaha
Remember how they refused to pass anything until they got their way. It could be a bill to outlaw gay marriage forever and I bet the will still block it off until the tax debate is done.
Besides maybe it is for the best. We can't be spending at all now, we don't have the money to pay for it.
