I know that in Japan freshmen start in 10th grade, but do they call them 1st years? Or 10th years?
I've watched school animes lately but I haven't understood their school system. X.x

the 10th grade = 高校1年; koukou ichi-nen (= the first year in high school)
the 11th grade = 高校2年; koukou ni-nen (= the second year in high school)
the 12th grade = 高校3年; koukou san-nen (= the third year in high school)
