I asked this in another area of health but no answers. Swollen lymph node? should i get it checked?

I found this bump a few inches behind my ear. im pretty sure its a swollen lymph node. But I don't know why its swollen, I haven't been sick or anything like that. It has been there for almost a month. When i touch its still hard and can be moved around. it got a little bit smaller. but not by much. Should I wait a few more weeks then get it checked out? what can it be from? thanks in advanced :)

A thyroid ultrasound wouldn't hurt. Your primary care physician should be able to perform one, or refer you to an endocrinologist. An ultrasound will reveal if it is simply swollen, or if you have a nodule or cyst. Either a nodule or a cyst could cause an imbalance in your thyroid hormone, which is easily controlled by daily medication.

A fluid-filled cyst would have to be drained, but an experienced endocrinologist can drain enough that the walls of the cyst join and essentially remove the cyst altogether.

Feel free to e-mail me with more questions, as there is much more detail.
