    First, take the natural log of both sides:

    ln5^x = ln4^(x+1)

    Then solve:

    xln5 = (x+1)ln4

    xln5 = xln4+ln4

    xln5 - xln4 = ln4

    x(ln5 - ln4) = ln4

    x = ln4/(ln5-ln4)

    Take the log of both sides...

    Xlog5 = (x+1)log4

    .699X = (x+1).602

    .097X = .602

    X = 6.206

    More accurately: X = 6.212567
