Bad Martial Arts Questions?!?

Well, my view is that the answer can only be good as the question. If the question is badly termed or information is lacking, there cannot be an adequate answer.

After all, the more I know about what a question asker needs to know, the more I can determine what bit of information from my toolbox can fix the problem. If I am given a generic question, I will provide a generally generic answer.

Because a lot of the people on here are kids who learned "self defense" (what they think it is) from watching UFC. So the answers to all questions is MMA, Muay Thai and BJJ no matter what the question or who is asking it. That is all these kids know. They have no clue about traditional martial arts and have never ever seen a real master (I am not talking about all these master who promoted each others and sometimes themselves) and just assume that it is not worth learning.

There are a group of people on here who try to make a difference but it is often very hard and frustrating of answering over and over "No, you can not learn martial arts off youtube", "Find a good teacher never mind the style", "Don't starve yourself to compete in a lower division", and on and on. It is rare we get some real intelligent questions and those are a lot of fun to answer and read the answers of others and that lets us forget all the ignorant stuff.

Don't let the morons on here drive you away! We all have to read through the garbage here to fine the questions worthy of answering. There is much real wisdom on this forum, but you must sift through the crap to find what gems you may find underneath. There are several really knowledgeable folks here who freely offer us their take on any martial art subject. I just got told by some kid he will beat me up, as well as another senior contributor here. These kids have learnt this disrespect somewhere, and are wannabes, supposed-to-Be's, and instead-ofs.

but think of it this way. If all the reasonable people here abandoned Y!A there would be nothing left but the trolls, and they would have won over the real martial artists. We can't have that now can we. Hang in there, and look to the true practitioners for good questions and disregard the others. We will all learn more, and have more fun that way. Rei!

Ignorance is unavoidable. Just filter out the BS and learn from peoples knowlege.
