Can I look up a marriage record online?
I need to look up a marriage record for a marriage that took place in Oklahoma. Every single website I find requires me to PAY to look. I thought marriage certificates were public records. ????????

They are public records but now a lot of online sites charge thinking people will pay for the convenience. You are able to go down to the county courthouse where you think the marriage took place and research public records. There is an online site called Netronline.com that allows a public records search by State and County. In Florida, for example, one of the accessible public records free of charge is marriage licenses. Not all states have equally free access to recorded documents, however.
You may want to try calling a clerk at the County courthouse by phone and asking if they can locate the record for you. At least this way you will have verbal confirmation that the marriage did take place. If you make friends with them by phone, maybe you can get them to agree to scan the record and send it to you as a PDF attached to an email.

I dont have an answer for you, but this caught my eye cause I was just trying the same thing last night. I thought they were public too, I think you can find free info at the library or courthouse. I think you can find marriage records there.

You can probably get it for free if you go to the physical court house. However, online you will probably have to pay a fee depending on the state.

They are, but you have to go to the courthouse of record to get it, and even then it won't be free.
