In the military with husband, will we be based together?
I was wondering, if I'm in the same military branch (for example the Navy) and so is my husband (both of us are officers), will we always be based together in the same place? What are the rules about this?
Thanks!

In the USN husbands and wives cannot be in the same ship's crew. The rule is that the Navy will "try" to keep you together geographically if there are two separate duty stations that fit your desires and existing vacancies, but they will not create a job (billet) just to keep you together, If you end up in San Diego or Norfolk, you have a good chance at living together under the same roof but, especially as officers, the chance of you ever being stationed together in same command are small. The Navy will also look at one of you being in DC and the other in Norfolk, VA as being "close enough" together. A likely scenario with married Junior Officers is that you will be on different ships in the same home port. That often means as his ship is coming home, yours is deploying. You also will both be working a 60 hour work week on different schedules with different 24 hour duty days about once a week.

co location is never a gauarntee. In fact for most of our Naval officer friends it NEVER happened.
Germany and Japan, Monterey and Bremerton. the one couple that both got San Diego? 2 different ships on opposite deployment schedules so they were never home at the same time anyway.

Aww isn't that just peachy? Would you like to go on a international honeymoon also? The military doesn't care if you and your husband are together or not. It's about defending a nation.
