what is the difference between 4 cylinder x and 4 cylinder s?
i have a 91 ford tempo with a 2.3 engine and I need a tire rod. No changes have been made to my car. I dont know if I have 4 cylinder s or 4 cylinder x..
i went to autozone and they asked me which cylinder i had and i have no idea.they dont know either. they said if i dnt have the right cylinder the tire rod wont fit

8th digit of the VIN. Go to NAPA for the part they'll know.

Tie rods are part of the front end so nothing to do with the engine. So what engine should not matter.
Any good mechanic can change the tie rods.

It really shouldn't make a difference, I wouldn't think. But you could be talking about the engine code. Which would be the 8th character in your VIN number.

i see a listing of two different engines on that car, a standard output and i believe an HO. if you look at the vin in the driver side front window, and look at the eighth digit, that could give you your answer.
