Browning A-5 serial question?

Just picked up an American-made Browning Auto 5 (12 gauge), and tried to find some info on when it was made. However, here ( http://www.browning.com/customerservice/dategun/de... ) I can't seem to find anything that matches the serial number, there are no digits in front of the letter. The serial # is B72xx. Any help is appreciated

It's got to be a 1940's shotgun if it was actually made in the USA.

Browning had their guns made in Belgium, up until World War II. When Nazi Germany invaded Belgium, they turned the arms production plants into making war materials instead of sporting shotguns. That's when Browning had Remington make the Auto-5 for about 5 years or so. Remington was already making the Model 11, which is basically the same shotgun.

Oh yeah, and not many A-5 shotguns were made by Remington, as they were also busy with military arms production.

From the best I can figure it was made after 1975. Browning changes the way they coded their guns several times. After 1975 they used a letter ("B" in your case) to designate the year of manufacture followed by the serial number.

But how to tell- I don't know.

Edit: but apparently they did not have a "B" year.

I did find a "b" in the 1940-1946 shotguns to designate 12 gauge.
