Why won't my laptop computer's battery charge?

The light on my adapter indicates that there is power flowing through the it, but the battery on laptop itself won't charge. Help?

Update:

577, so replacing the laptop's battery will fix the problem?

NICAD (Nickle Cadmium) batteries are often referred to as "memory batteries". This is because they sort of "remember" how much you charge them. With NICADs, if you constantly drain the battery down to - for example - 80% and re-charge, then, the average life of your battery will be reduced to about 20% over time.

    They don't last forever.

If your battery won't charge, you need to replace it. Here are two things to think about :

    1) If you have an older laptop, and it uses NICADs only, you can extend the life of your new battery by only charging it when your battery is down to 10%. That means, if you're running on batteries, then run them down.

    2) Replace with a Lithium Ion ( LiON) battery if at all possible. LION batteries last longer, and have no "memory"... they cost more, but are worth the difference.

Over time batteries loose their charge and their ability to charge, so it seems like its time to pick up a new one. Yes, replacing it will fix the problem.

Your battery's cells won't hold a charge anymore. You need to replace it.
