Jammed finger - 9 month old baby . HELP ?

So, this afternoon my 5 year old and 10 month old were playing this "leap-out-from-behind-the-door-and-yell-boo-to-make-the-baby-laugh" game with one of them on either side of the door . I slipped out of the room for a washroom break ( washroom being 5 steps away ) and of course, the baby's finger had gotten slammed in the door crack .

It started to show bruising shortly after, from the cuticle to about the halfway point of his little nail . I had my mother ( a nurse ) check to see if it was broken, as he was screaming so hard, it was heartbreaking .

What I'm looking for is some similar experiences . I'm wondering if this happened to your baby/child, if the nail fell off ? How long it took ? How long it took for a nail to grow back ? Preferably from the perspective of someone with a small child as I imagine their nails would grow at a different rate than an adults .

Thank you .

ps ; PLEASE do not leave any negative comments, I already feel horrible that this has happened .

Update:

Sorry, I put 9 months in the title and 10 months in the description . He in fact just turned 10 months a few days ago .

Update 2:

I assume that baby nails and adult nails would grow at a different rate taking into consideration that a baby's nails are softer, thinner and not as strong as an adults . Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm obviously not a doctor if I'm asking Y!A :)

Update 3:

Touche, Bob . Nancy Jo, maybe I did not specify, his finger is not broken . I would have taken him to the hospital before I popped by Y!A to ask for advice . Only the fingernail was damaged .

Update 4:

I'm not going to bring him to the doctor's to see if it's broken ; he's 10 months old and he crawled on it all day after the accident happened . He'd have screamed his head off if it was broken anytime he put any pressure on it . The bruising has actually receded by almost half and the swelling went down completely .

It takes about a month for an adult nail to grow back. I dont think a baby will be different. So id say 1 to 2 months. Itll take time C:

Im so sorry to hear about tyour baby, accidents happen :)

I dont have a kid but ive smashed my finger into a door

it turned purple/red do to the blood undernearth

if this happened you might want to get the blood out from under neath with a hot needle

if you dont here what will happen

it will start to get darker in color (Do to fact of the blood drying)

it will start to shift to green

soon the nail will start to be pushed up by another soft nail underneath

the nail will eventually fall off

it usually takes 1-2 months or so maybe longer cause hes a kid

    Best of luck :)

There is no one single Paleo Diet, as our ancestors from all over the world ate dramatically different diets depending on the climate where they lived, their landscape, accessibility to water bodies, and the latitude that they lived. This is a detailed meal plan for the paleo diet https://tr.im/E25FL

In some cases, a Paleo Diet may be 90% plant foods and 10% animal foods, and in other cases, a Paleo Diet may be 90% animal foods and 10% plant foods.

For example, our ancestors that lived near the equator had year long access to more plant materials such as root vegetables and various fruits, veggies, and nuts.

On the other hand, our ancestors that lived at higher latitudes further away from the equator only had access to fruits and vegetables seasonally at one specific time period per year, and had larger periods of the year where they ate a higher % of meats, organ meats, fish, and other animal-based foods, or fermented foods that could be stored for winter.

Why would you assume that a childs nail would grow back at a different rate as an adults, a nail is a nail. males nails grow at a faster rate than females so thats a bonus for you i guess

edit: if you take into consideration the size of the infants finger, in comparison to your own finger, then the relative size, strength and thisckness of the nail is the same.

maybe you should take him to the doctor just to make sure it wasn't broken. their bones are so much softer than ours are and if it is bruised you never know. i would want to be safe than sorry. especially if it heals funny and he isn't able to use it well later in life.

and you tell him i hate people that do that they get on here to insult people cause they think they know everything

my little brother who is a little older then your baby lost his fingernail and it took aprx. that long

sorry to about your little one

the age is irrelevant -treatment is the same. ice the site, give the babe advil or tylenol, and tape the injured finger to the one next to it. follow up with the pediatrician. clip the nail carefully to prevent further injury.
