White sugar refers to granulated sugar
Confectioner's sugar is icing sugar.

Hi Brenda, The recipe really should tell you what sugar if not then use granulated or caster / extra fine sugar. Confectioners sugar contains cornflour and sometimes an anti- caking agent. I hope this helps,all the best. Rab
