is 5 months enough for passport to Italy? UK passport?
Hi,
I am going to Italy in February. My passport runs out in July. Do you think i should get it renewed just in case as i have read on some sites that your passport has to be valid for 6 months. Yet on the FCO website (British foreign office webiste) it says as long as your passport is valid.
Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks a lot.

UK citizens traveling within the EC can use their passports up to and including the expiry date. Your good to go. The 6 months you heard is usually nonsense spread by lazy travel agents who can't be bothered to look up the facts. It only affect a small number of countries, none of which are in Europe.
Enjoy your trip.

There's no problem with this. The six month thing is only necessary for countries where you need a Visa. It doesn't apply to anywhere in Europe if you're an EU citizen.
However, if it makes you feel safer you can apply for a new passport before the expiry date and the new passport will be dated from the date your old passport would have expired. In other words, you're not losing any time by renewing it early.
If you are going to renew it anyway it might be worth thinking about, especially because if you renew it in the summer months you'll find the waiting period for your new passport is far longer. Renewing in the winter months means there's not as many people applying.

No. You need to renew your passport. Italy as with most places require that you have at least 6 months remaining on you passport for entry.
