What is a good holiday gift for a couple?

My husband and I are trying to find gifts for the deacons of our church and thier wives. I have tried to convince him to get the ladies one gift and the men another but he wants to get one gift for each couple. Any ideas for what a good gift might be. Most are in thier mid 50's or older. One couple is about mid 30's. My husband and I are the youngest in the group.

Thanks for you help!

I was just having the same issue. I just got back from Costco and bought a 6 piece tower of snacks and candies for $15.99 and it was pre-wrapped already. We bought more than one to give as gifts. And it was worth it because when we gave it to one of our elderly neighbors, they loved it!

Often, folks in their 50's already have a lot of "stuff". How about tickets to somewhere local but off the familiar path like a museam or other localish place? For the couple in their mid 30's how about tickets plus a night of babysitting if appropriate?

The food basket is always in line for this type of thing.

But, do any of these folks do the digital picture and home printing thing? If so, how about some photograph paper for their printer? Do any of these folks do gardening? If so, how about a gift certificate to a local nursery so they can indulge their spring fever once the plants are out? How are the economics of these couples, would they do better with an oil change certificate? Do these folks end up spending a lot of money say driving as they perform their duties; how about a gas gift card. Do any of these folks have a passion they are active in such as Habitat for Humanity or other organization; would they just as well have a donation in their name to an organization/activity they are active in?

Try practical gifts like beautiful dishes, clocks, etc. Individual gifts are nice but it's easier to find gifts for couples and less expensive too.

Christmas basket or box of fruits and cheeses.

Our daughter often sends us a Christmas box of pears and cheese. Beautiful gift and appreciated.
