What are your thoughts on this (brilliant) education reform video?
It can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDZFcDGpL4U
Personally, I agree wholeheartedly with the guy. He's a genius, and he kept my tiny teenaged attention span on him the entire time. Kudos! XD
I hope someone in the higher governmental ranks finds this video.
As an AP student, I often found myself dreading school. This vid read my mind.

i dont have sound..but I watched the entire thing and still got the idea of it!
I whole heartedly agree. What caught my attention the most was the ADHD segment. Im 32 years old and when i went to school that wasn't even heard of...and now it seems like if a kid is a little hyper or has a short attention span or has an over active imagination they suddenly have ADHD? I was like that I'm STILL like that...I still have an overactive imagination...I still am a bit hyper sometimes..and I tend to have a short attention span...but I would not say I have ADHD. or ADD for that matter. for gosh sakes... im the type that will play chase and hide and seek with a 2 year old in a restaurant! hows that for imagination?! lol
I'm not sure how the younger elementary grades are now ( like 1st and second)..but school was pretty fun when I went...but it really seemed like by the time I got too junior high the teachers really stopped caring...instead of still having a " i'm going to make this something fun to learn" attitude..it changed too.." just do the damn work coz i dont wanna deal with you right now " attitude. its not fair to kids at all to do that to them. and this isnt on a level of being mature. Unless you are a complete fuddy duddy anyone would like to learn something as long as it is made fun. education can be fun...but teachers and school staff seem to stop caring after a while. I remember learning time's tables...it was made fun because we would sing it...even now..when I need to remember something from multiplication..I will sing it. It has stuck with me in that way. and im terrible at math too!! My favorite math subject was geometry because it involved shapes and drawing and measuring and so on.
Extremely imaginative children are said to also be very intelligent children...and to take that element of " fun" out of their education is in my opinion just wrong. When that happens..they tend to lose focus and begin to not care...some even may end up quitting school.
I was one of those children. I ended up quitting school.... could I have learned the stuff? oh yes... rather easily.... but I was so damn bored by the time I quit that I just kept falling asleep in school. I almost felt zombie like because everything was sooo repetitive.. wake up... go to school.. write down stuff.. listen to some teacher drone on and on about stuff... ..repeat next day.... * sighs and shakes head sadly* :(
