5,400 Canadians sought Health Care in the US last year. How many were on vacation in Florida, Texas, Cali, AZ?
or just visiting on business, or cross border shopping when they became ill or injured? (1)
and how many decided to impoverish themselves to seek "better, quicker care" in the USA ? (2)
@Gee Wally Yes, only if the procedure is pre-approved by the provincial government, this would be if the patient was too ill to be on a waiting list or the procedure was recognized as more advanced in the USA.
The LAW in Canada is that the most ill are treated first, not the Richest or the Loudest.
I forgot to add there are more than 34,000,000 Canadians covered by "Universal Health Care"

5,400 is a tiny, tiny number. Probably just tourists getting injured. They would have been covered by travel insurance.
Seriously, why are so many Americans intent on having a government that doesn't care about them?

each and every time the gov't gets in touch, the finished gadget will cave in. The Canadian gadget won't artwork right here interior the states because of the fact maximum human beings won't stand for a 2 3 hundred and sixty 5 days watch for a optionally available surgical operation. Salaries {including Md's} will pass down, so which you've a mass exodus of nicely experienced professionals. opposition will go through, new analyze will lessen. the wealthy who could have adequate money inner maximum wellbeing care will gain this, and then there will be whining with regard to the wealthy get greater valuable wellbeing care...etc ....etc... that is been shown that social wellbeing care isn't the respond right here interior the states. we could discover out the place the waste is and pass from there. end frivolous regulation suits, so malpractice coverage can come down, advance nurses salaries {in basic terms kidding}, purely some innovations.

None of them impoverished themselves, if they choose to come here, either they could afford it, or their country paid for it. Yep, under some circumstances Canada pays the US for its citizens medical care.
We have a great many more hospitals and doctors, and wonderful treatments, some experimental, for those who can afford it, no one has ever said otherwise. Its a great system.
What we have is a lousy delivery system. Its too expensive to buy insurance, its tied to our jobs and our employers good graces and desire to add a burdensome layer of expenses to his bottom line, even with the deductions he can take, and the insurance companies are too prone to not paying out if they can avoid it.
So you don't even get the coverage you have been paying for.
The problems aren't with quality, care, education or staff, tight as we may be. The problems is with cost containments.
And nothing was done about that.

That's all? Heck! 250,000 Americans every year seek quality, affordable healthcare in Canada because it is just not available in the United States.
I have read anecdotal evidence of the wealthy folks around the world coming to the US for health care: they should, as our system is set up to serve the wealthy...

I live in the U.S., in a city that borders Canada, and I work for a hospital system. Thousands of Canadians come through our doors every year...and I am not just talking about emergency treatments for some Canadian that is coming down here for a hockey game and takes a puck to the face and goes to the ER, I am talking about for majority surgery and treatments. This is a fact...so one has to question their system of health care if so many of them are coming down here and paying out of pocket to get procedures done that would be covered in their own country...maybe because of the ridiculously long waiting lists, and other issues with government-run health care.
I don't believe your "5,400" total in the U.S. number for a second, especially since you have absolutely no proof of this. We probably get close to that many in my city alone every year.

That may be true but Americans go to Canada by the bus and train loads every day to buy medication and see doctors.

Canadian friends I've had have no complaints about the healthcare. In the end how can you complain?
Its free, it covers the basics necessities, and the Canadians who do complain should try out our system. Shut them up quick if they tried to complain about their country's system.

I don't know a precise number, but a lot of them come to Michigan as well.

Canada also reimburses its citizens for health care they receive in other countries.

Great question!!! You get a star for this one!! I can only surmise that it's because their "universal healthcare" sucks!!
