Hi oinkrabbit,
Let me help clear your doubts one by one:
1. You want a green web hosting service: I suggest GreenGeeks and HostGator as they use renewable energy to power their hosting servers. It helps the environment a lot by reducing significant amount of carbon emission to fight global warming, yet continue to provide you the reliable web hosting service you need. In fact, JustHost and InMotionHosting have gone green too, but partially. They provide options for you to go green.
2. I guess your existing web host should be the type that also provides free hosting service or a smaller-scale web host which is running on budget, that's why they can only afford email support. Take any web host I recommended above and they'll give you real round-the-clock support through phone, live chat and email.
3. In fact, it doesn't matter how many pages you build. It's the traffic volume that determines the type of hosting plan for you. Small business website can generate large traffic. For example, if you got a huge traffic volume say 100,000 or more per month, you probably need a VPS (virtual private server) hosting plan or best, dedicated server plan. It seems that you're creating a new site, so a shared hosting plan should suffice. It's very much cheaper to start off with too.
4. Thanks to the stiff competition, many reliable hosting companies offer price that are competitive and reasonable. Again, go with anyone in point 1 above and they are all reasonable. You can further compare their prices and see which one best fits your needs.
5. For expanding your business in future, you must go with a provider that not only offers shared hosting service but also offers VPS and dedicated plan so you can upgrade without changing company. Changing web hosting platform can be troublesome and may induce downtime if you screw up.
6. There are a lot more stuff to learn if you want to know more about web hosting. I suggest this site where you can get many useful tips on web hosting:

I think you know pretty well what you want but just a reminder - the best reliable web hosting service for anyone is through thorough testing out and using the service themselves. Your personal experience will give you the best review. Take advantage of their money back guarantee. You may get your preferred provider the first time or it may take you several months before you settle down with the one that you like best. Good luck!

Your answers:
1. I'm a vegetarian, so I hope you would recommend me a green web host.
:-) Just to dispel a myth.. all those "green" hosting companies that you read are more or less marketing terms without much substance when you delve deep into it.
2. I've got pretty bad experience with my existing web host that only provides email support. So I need a truly 24/7 support team to wait on me whenever I need.
Sure. All good hosts have multiple forms of support..
3. I'm into building a 50 page or so website so I consider it a small business, what kind of hosting plan do you suggest?
50 pages is quite little. However, a type of hosting cannot be determined (fully) just from the number of pages you are going to build. What will the pages use? Are they going to use a database like MySQL? Are they going to be static HTML/CSS pages? Are they going to have videos on them? Do you have an idea of how many visitors you will have per day? (Only people with existing websites can answer this last question). Answers to these kind of questions are the ones that can be used in telling you a type of hosting you'll need. If it is not a very intensive website, then you should do good with a personal/business shared hosting plan available at many web hosts.
4. I know a quality hosting provider may be a little more ex. But price must be reasonable.
True. You get what you pay for. You can expect within a range but going too cheap is going to be detrimental to your website's success. I have had a website go down every single day for about an hour till I shifted it to HG. If you are ok with something like $20/month, have a look at http://www.slicehost.com./ They are very good. If you'd prefer $5-$10, then have a look at http://www.reliablehostingweb.com/ for a few recommendations.
5. I would also need a platform which alllows me to expand my business in future.
That was thoughtful. Many folks don't realize this is necessary till quite late.
6. Appreciate additional advices. Thanks in advance.
To check how a host's support is going to be, try having a live chat/phone conversation with them before signing up with them. This will give you an idea of how fast/good their support is. If you have any special requirements for your website, it is ALWAYS a good idea to talk to them before you sign up if they'd support what you want. That should probably be enough advice :)
All the best.

There are definitely reliable web hosting services for under $100/year. I recommend you check out HostMonster, HostGator and A2 Hosting.

I have done a lot of research to find the best hosting company. I will say in finding hosting company you don't want to look at the price, but rather look at the value you get. The prices are very similar and I don't think you want to pay couple dollar less if you don't get the service that you need. Go daddy has been great for me. I have moved many of my clients to Go daddy because of their service. Try them, they are really good. I didn't like their name, but their service is really great, I had a rep working with me on a very strange problem for over an hour and then he called me back the next day to make sure I was happy with the service. Amazing, I will stay with them not because of their prices but because of the value they provide. Running a website has many complexities, I don't want to add more to it. It is time consuming to move your existing website and keep your SEO and your Internet Marketing effort intact. So, find a company that you want to stay with for a long time. I hope this answers your question.

I have tried with several web hosting providers. Godaddy, ipage, hostinggator, youwebhost.com, worldcheapestwebhosting.com, As a 10 years continuous experience finally chose the 2 providers. You should try 1 month and see the difference. Their services are remarkable. When you have trouble, you have several options. (call, email, chat, Helpdesk,....) I just put the questions and wait 1 minute. Answer is on the screen on the other minute. Also you can create your web site within a minute. All the free softwares are on the Control panel. All are totally free..
