The bitter quinine taste of the tonic is not everyone's cup of tea. However, you can mix gin with Rose's Lime Juice in a 1:1 ratio and you'll have a gimlet. (This is basically the only acceptable application to not use fresh lime juice.) A few more examples: Mix gin with dry vermouth in a 4:1 ratio and you'll have a dry martini. Mix gin with dry vermouth and sweet vermouth in an 8:1:1 ratio and you'll have a perfect martini. 2 parts gin, 1 part fresh lemon juice, a tablespoon of sugar, mixed and topped off with soda water is a Tom Collins. Mix gin with sweet vermouth and Campari in a 1:1:1 ratio and you've got a Negroni. The Salty Dog is 4 parts grapefruit juice and 1 part gin. A Bronx is 3 parts gin, 1 part sweet vermouth, 1 part dry vermouth, 1 part orange juice. The White Lady is 2 parts gin, 1 part Cointreau, 1 part lemon juice. And if you really like the taste of gin, mix two shots of gin with five or six drops of Angostura bitters to create Pink Gin, which is the most hardcore drink I know (with the girliest name).
