Did the membrane sweep work you?
I am 39+1 and my midwife has offered me a sweep on Monday (when I will be two days off of 40 weeks exactly - she only does midwife appointments on a Monday). I have not yet decided whether or not I am going to accept this as I am concerned about being in hospital over the Christmas period (although I know there are no guarantees either way - lol). This is my first baby. The head is 3/5ths down and at my last appointment he was positioned so that his back was to the left of me and his limbs were towards the right. He had been back to back previously but it seems he is beginning to turn. What were your experiences with the membrane sweep? Did it work for you? I know there are no guarantees, I just want to hear about some other peoples experiences of this. Many thanks and Merry Christmas x

i had two, one at nearly 38 weeks which didnt work and one 6 days overdue then i went into labour a few hours later. if you did accept the sweep and the baby was ready youd probaly have the baby within a few days and should be home for christmas, but if youd prefer to wiat until christmas has gone then ask for a sweep the following week instead so you can enjoy christmas without being in hospital. your midwife will help go through the facts and when/if they think it will happen soon. good luck for the birth merry christmas.

My doctor did a membrane sweep without telling me. All I knew was it hurt really bad. Then I went into labor the next night. I can't say for sure that is what did it but I felt different right away. I had cramping that didn't go away and a backache.
In my opinion you should just wait and let your body do what it needs to do. Although it can be hard to wait your baby will come when he is ready. Oh and I know how you feel about the Christmas hospital stay. My daughter was born December 18th 2008 and I had to miss my family Christmas because I couldn't travel too far right away.

Yep worked for me.
With my first, the MW attempted a sweep when I was 2 days over, but my cervix was too high, so she just walked it forward with her finger. It was really uncomfortable because it wasn't ready then.
Then when I was 8 days overdue, the obstetric could easily do a stretch & sweep because I was already 1cm dilated by that point. She used her finger to stretch my cervix first, then done a sweeping motion to sweep away the membranes from around baby's head.
6 hours later I was in labor and had my daughter early hours of the following morning.
A stretch & sweep are definitely recommended from my experience.

No No No, I ended up having a emergency C section. After a sweep, after they induced me, after they broke my waters... At 41 weeks, 2 weeks over due. Why don't you try some home remedy's?
Eat spicy foods, just go for it, order the hottest curry and eat it!
Eat fresh pineapple after.
Go for a walk or march up some stairs. Just take your partner and walk and walk for hours, do stairs, hills.
Have sex, sex can help by releasing a hormone called oxytocin, which causes the uterus to contract.
Nipple stimulation. For those who find sex just too uncomfortable right now, nipple stimulation may be a better choice. It helps to bring on labor in much the same way sex does, by releasing oxytocin.
Foot massage can cause labour to start.
All these can be done in the same day. Have sex, nipple stimulation, then go for a long walk, come home and eat a curry, get your partner to give you a foot massage and then a warm bath...... and wait and see.... you could be in labour within 48 hours!
