How much wood would Wayne Gretzky chuck if he broke a stick after every 2 goals or evey 3 points with that stick (whichever came first).

Okay here's the serious part: Wayne Gretzky played while I guess I was naive, and I never really heard anyone speak negatively about the guy. Maybe I didn't pay attention or maybe because I was a kid and he had a cartoon called ProStars that I thought he was just the greatest and I accepted it...I hear people now a days compare Crosby to Gretzky (well for like 10 years now), but did people hate Wayne as much as they hate Crosby?

I paid a decent amount of attention to hockey back then, and I can't recall 1/100th of the hate that Sid gets. Blame it on 24/7 media overload nowadays v. the relatively niche condition that hockey suffered through back then. Maybe he was hated in small pockets, like on the rival teams of the Oilers, Kings and Rangers (that Blues thing never really happened, right?) but I still can't recall him ever being nearly as polarizing as Sid.
