what could cause a Mac desktop to freeze?
okay so heres the deal. Little bit older IMac desktop. It freezes up for no reason and at random. internet, photoshop, widgits ect.. all of them freeze the computer. The software was just upgraded to the latest and greatest, didn't help. The hard drive is new. Onyx has been run. .. could a bad motherboard be the cause? any advice would be great. thanks!

Difficult to tell. The first thing to try would be to make a clean install of Mac OS X, clean as in 'erase the hard drive'. (Don't use Onyx except for very specific features. It never helped resolving any of my system problems.)
If the iMac is really old, it might be worth a try to pull out the RAM and clean the connectors.
If this doesn't resolve the freezing, run Apple Hardware Test from the Mac OS X install disc that came with the Mac (the grey-colored disc, not a black-colored retail version): Insert the disc, restart and keep the D key pressed until the test program starts.
