Catholics: questions about communion?

1) Are children who have not completed their 1st communion classes walk up with a parent when he/she receives communion?

2) Why do some people drink the wine while most do not? (this is true at the masses I've attended at least)

3) What do these words mean to you? (Lord, I am not worthy to receive you; but only say the word and I shall be healed)

Thank you.

Update:

Typo: should read "Can children...walk up with a parent...?"

    1) A child that has not attended an RCIC or CCD class may not partake in communion. They may go up with their parents and older siblings and receive a blessing from the priest.

    2) Simply a choice, there are some churches that do not offer the wine at all. They do not require you to take both the bread and the wine but you may if you choose to. For example, someone that is a recovering alcoholic would not be expected to drink wine at church and put them in a position of temptation. The bread and the wine are equal in the grace they infer.

    3) Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and i shall be healed; to me this says simply, i am not worthy to receive you, for i am a sinner and i fall short of heaven. Secondly it is a statement of faith in Jesus that he is capable to heal us of our sin simply by his word.

Yes, Children may accompany parents in the communion line even if they have not received their first communion class. It is up to the parents to ensure they do not accidently receive communion.

Christ is received fully under either species...bread or wine. Some do not receive the wine because it used to not be offered....so it's habit....others fear the spread of germs or don't want any backwash.

Taken from scripture indicating full faith. The Centurion told Jesus that he was not worthy to receive Christ into his house...but if Christ would only say the word he knew his servant would be healed. We as Catholics know we are not worthy to receive Christ...yet we do...and that we are made worthy of receiving him because he said so.

    1. The Children go to be blessed as they have not completed there classes.

    2. Some do not drink from the cup for fear of contacting some one Else's cold or maybe there a recovering Alcoholic. The reason are numerous. The point is Jesus is whole and complete in the bread or the Wine so taking both is not necessary.

    3. It is a prayer of humility and contrition helping us to realize we as sinners are not worthy of the sacrifice Christ made for us.

    1) Your first question seems to be mission a verb. But if I understand correctly, an unprepared child may not receive even if a parent accompanies him/her.

    2) It is not required to communicate under both species, as they say, and some people simply have a preference. Also, people who have colds often pass the cup by.

    3) This is an ancient formulary prayer taken from the story of Jesus and the centurion. It indicates that the Eucharist is so sacred that no believer is intrinsically worthy to consume it, but that the atoning sacrifice of Jesus removes the unworthiness of sin.

    1. Children can come up for a blessing, but not to receive communion until they have had instruction and a first confession.

    2. It is the blood of Christ; it is no longer wine. Not all take the blood, but Christ is fully received in either form.

    3. The words about not being worthy are a quote from Matthew 8:

8 The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

Since not everyone is in a state of grace to receive the sacrament, these words offer consolation and help to all.

    Cheers,

    Bruce

Protestants do no longer proportion the Roman and Orthodox Catholic theory in "transubstantiation"--it relatively is, on the 2nd of blessing, the wine and bread a approach or the different become actually the physique and Blood of Christ. They base this on the words Jesus used on the final Supper: it is my physique/it is my blood it relatively is shed for you. Protestants evaluate the bread and wine as symbols, a remembrance of Christ, as He pronounced, "this do in rememberance of me." they think approximately the Presence of God interior the Communion to be "immanent", no longer "drawing close"--no longer bodily latest, yet spiritually so.

    1) Kids who have not done their holy communion do not take communion at all, sometimes they walk up for a blessing only. This is never with parents.

    2) Some people don't like the wine.

    3) Nothing.

WHOEVER THUMBED THIS DOWN IS A COMPLETE AND UTTER RETARD, THE ABOVE IS CORRECT.

    1. No, they don't have to. They could however receive blessings

    2. You're supposed to receive wine and bread (blood and body of Christ. In his memory). Many have stopped doing so (at least here in the US, not so in Italy) due to health reasons (fear of passing a virus/disease)

    3. Nothing to me personally. However it means that you're humble in front of God and at his mercy
