Reincarnation theories...?

What religions believe in reincarnation? How do they differ from each other?

Before I get jumped on -- I am not questioning whether reincarnation is true or false. I just want to learn about it. I am a writer and am hoping to use a reincarnation theory in one of my books. I just have to figure out a way to westernize it just enough to make people want to read it, but I also want it to have a "historical" basis.

Any good references you could link to would be a great help too! Thanks!

Update:

Helpful... thanks. Would it help if I put "theory" in quotations? You know what I mean... I just want to know what different people believe about reincarnation.

No such thing as a 'reincarnation theory'.

A 'theory' must be testable and falsifiable. Reincarnation is neither.

    - The only reincarnation 'theory' that I know of is from Buddhism...

Reincarnation is an aspect of many Eastern Religions such as Bhudism, Janism and Hinduism. Reincarnation is the basis for spiritual and physical evolution in eastern tradition, plus it gives an infinite amount of time to fill the law of karma. All matter in the universe in imbued with spirit, or higher conciseness, that is compelled to move itself back to it's source of creation. Every form that exists is part of this process, including people, rocks, trees, planets, galaxies on and on. If you want to do some research into the reincarnation, do so in the field of psychology and the study of conciseness. Science is not starting to do investigate the relation between consciousness, and it's effects on matter. All past life memories are buried in the unconscious mind and are only accessible with a large amount of meditation.

    Mine does!

I believe that we originally came from heaven and through a combination of sin (which means to rebel from God) and the devil falsely accusing us, we were cast out of heaven! As in

Rev. 12 4And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth

I believe that this verse is something that has already happened long ago in the past, and that we are the Angels in this verse! If you were to stop and think about it you would realize that the Devil in this verse is not the leader of these fallen Angels! He is forcing them against their will by his tail, he is their false accuser!

In the beginning we were all Angel's in heaven that rebelled from God (which is the meaning of the word sin).

So you have been given a chance to repent (Which means to change your mind) or burn in hell! Even though you don't consciously remember ever having lived in heaven and you don't consciously remember rebelling from god, you are going through spiritual growth here no earth!

Unless you were to believe this, life on earth wouldn't make any sense at all! How else can you explain why everyone was born guilty of sin? And that if unless some one was to tell you that you were a sinner you wouldn't have any knowledge of it at all! Furthermore how can a fair and just God punish people for a sin that was supposedly committed by an ancient ancestor of theirs (Adam & Eve)? What is the point in all of the suffering and hardship on earth?

The spirit lives forever, it never dies and it never sleeps.

Westernized reincarnation might be "New Age". You might study Edgar Cayce or Sylvia Brown and go from there.
