Blood Sugar Level Change with insulin?

I was diagnosed with diabetes back in 06. The doctor prescribed Novolin R and N insulin.

Used to be 40 unitis on N and 30 units at night of N. R was to be taken only when my sugar levels are higher than 180 before meals.

Well I am currently out of work and lost my insurance. From the start I have been taking NOVOLIN N at 40units in the morning only because my sugar levels were usually 90-99 in the morning and during the day its around 150. Never high. So i adjusted myself. Well I have been getting my novolin at walmart over the counter. Well I currently went to purchase a bottle the week of thanksgiving

when I was told they no longer carry novolin n. They gave me a brand called humulin n. They said it was the same just different name. Well Its been a few weeks and my sugars have been weird. In the morning my sugars are 130-150 and during the day its about 150 and after meals its 205. It doesn't seem right. Is it possible that the humulin isn't working like the novolin?

I tried taking the extra 30 units in the evening but nothing seems to change. Is it possible that I need to up the dose due to the new insulin? I can't see a dr right now. Any advice would be great.

I don't eat sugar stuff and usually stick to a very low carb meal plan. No breads, or anything.

Thanks.

They should be exactly the same. I've heard of some diabetics reacting poorly to certain types of insulin, though I've never had a problem. That said: I was on Lily's insulins (Humulin N and R) before I moved over to Humalog and the pump, and I'm not sure how I could have managed on just N. I needed the R to counteract my meals.

NPH is NPH. It should not matter if it is made by Novo or by Lilly. Here are a few tips. 1. NPH usually does not start working for 1 hour (after you inject it). It has it's peak erratically between 4 and 8 hours and it does not last much longer that 16 hours. These time points presume that your kidney function is normal and that you are using average doses. NPH taken in the morning will not control your sugar the following morning. R insulin starts working in about 30 min. and has it's peak between 2 and 3 hours. It will last about 6 hours. General it wise to inject R about 30 min. before meal. Pushing large doses of NPH at bedtime increases the chance of getting low in the middle of the night when the N is peaking. In the morning your glucose may rise because of the dawn phenomena. Adrenaline, cortisol, and Growth hormone making your liver make glucose as "wake you up hormones. Good luck.

take Karela , cucumber (each one piece) juice for immediate drink in the morning for 3 to 4 days ....... after that take Gymnema Sylvestry mother tincture (homoeopathy) 20 drop with 1/2 cup of water 3 to 4 time a day ....... check Blood Sugar Level within 1 week , and stop those insulin stuff , its a trap. Talk to a Homoeopath for better treatment with all of your mother's medical paper. I have lowered blood sugar level more than this . above medicine was for managemant only . if it blood sugar is lowered within 7 days , you have time to think , contact nearest homoeopath. if necessary mail me.
