How do I stop updates from reocccuring?

I recently ran an updates on my computer for windows and ended up with 19 updates. The problem is they never seem to finish updating and I'm beginning to think I picked up something I shouldn't have. When I shut the computer down it says "updating 19 updates" do not shut down. I don't. The next time it does the same thing over and over. I have started shutting down the computer as I'm fearing what it is actually doing. Any ideas? I have AVG only on the computer and I did run that. Nothing came up.

The easy way to correctly install these updates is one by one. Go to the Microsoft Download Center, type in the update number (i.e. the KB number) go to that link and download and install the update manually. Unfortunately in this case you will have to do this 19 times (you may need to reboot less than that but it depends on what the updates are).

These errors usually happen when you inadvertently try to update something that you could have but chose not to install or when using some 32-bit software in 64-bit Windows.
