It is like wading through an impossible jungle. It so much depends what your individual needs and preferences are. Currently I am with Medicare Complete which is the dreaded word HMO. Actually it has worked well for me. I tried to research with help from my daughter who is skilled with researching . We tried to examine options. My priority if I decided to change was to have the privilege of seeing a specialist without having to have a referral. Another was the privilege of choosing which Dr I wanted to see, and which facility I wanted to use, hospital, prosthetics,Physical Therapy facility and more. I discovered with my current health status, the plan I have covers my needs, is much less expensive throughout the year even with c0pays than if I were paying added premiums in order to have those privileges. I am going to continue to explore during the coming year so I may be sure I am getting the biggest bang for my buck. For a person who has many more specific needs, to pay for a supplemental may be best, they are all quite expensive and most offer different levels, providing better or lesser coverage and varying in monthly premium charges. I use few medications which keep my costs down. With the HMO, Medicare pays premiums directly to the carrier and it is the medicare premiums that are already deducted from your SS check.

Speak with an insurance agent which represents the AARP plans, one who represents the Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, figure your yearly needs you know to expect, Look over the list of providers an HMO will have listed.

Good luck to you and to us all!!

    Happy New Year!

I dont understand why people keep asking this question on this forum instead of calling a local insurance agent who sells policies from various insurance companies. If you speak to someone they can recommend one according to your needs and budget. I have Medicare Advantage so I dont know about Medigap but I hear that Blue Cross offers a decent policy but it depends what state you live in. Every state has certain insurance companies that have a monopoly on that particular market. There are variations in Medigap policies. You get spam if you make online inquiries but you would still receive brochures in the mail because you are asking for information and they want to sell you insurance.

Medicare supplemental plans disguise the comparable centers that Medicare covers. They pay the 20% of fees that Medicare doesnt. The plans and fees variety from state to state and domestically. you could seem on the Medicare website to work out what's accessible the place you reside. maximum substantial insurers supply Medigap rules. you would be able to desire to purchase a Medigap plan the place you reside and from despite coverage firms are on your section.

I don't think it is the best one, but I have Secure Horizons through United Health Care. The cost is the usual $96.50 every month from the Social Security check and the monthly premium is $0.00. GP visits are $15.00 and specialists are $35.00. I was previously insured with Sterling Life Insurance and they had better coverage, including some dental and vision. I had to change because their monthly premium was raised to $59.00 per month and I believe it will be higher in 2011.

Secure Horizons does not cover dental without extra riders. They only cover vision after cataract surgery.

The only inundation from SPAM is with AARP. They are relentless, either online or mail.

I would suggest that it is Blue Cross/Shield but that may be because it is part of my retirement package. They do refuse to pay legitimate claims from time to time but I have always managed to get it straightened out.
