Price to replace a CV boot/joint?

Anyone know about how much it'll run me to replace a cv boot (possibly joint) for an 89 Toyota Camry. I know it differs from place to place, but I'm just looking for a ballpark.

Thanks

It would be cheaper to replace with a re manufactured axle than just the joint or boot. Depending on which side whole deal $200.00 to $250.00.

CV joint is the weak part of the system as far as breaking & wearing out... the axle very rarely has issues... so the lifetime warranty is worth ???? not a lot.. Yes the cost of the new CV will be around the $140... removing the old .. lift car.. remove wheel.. undo hub retaining nut.. pull hub away from old axle.. pull out old CV joint... push in new one... replace everything that came off.. so could take about an hour... both prices seem reasonable.. only $40 difference.. so if the first quote is a reputable firm & the second a back yard mechanic... think Id go with the first...

If you turn to the left and step on the gas and hear some click click click clicking sounds, that is a good indication the left cv joint is going bad, if you turn to the right and step on the gas and hear a bunck of clicking sounds, thats a good indication the right cv joint is going bad too. If you look under the hood, you can see parts of them, and one is shorter than the other, usually the long one wears out first.

And you buy the whole peice from the axle to the transmission, the price may vary depending on who rebuilt the part. as a guess a 150 bucks plus labor. (but its been awhile since I priced one of those. go easy on the gas until you get it fixed.

  • the entire shaft that i see listed for the 2.0 version is less than 100.00 dollars so i would replace the whole shaft at the same time. it all hsa to come apart to get that much done.
