How much do you think these used tanks are worth? What shoul dbe my asking price?
I've been out of the tank sales and purchase arena for a few years and am finally clearing out my storage unit and have a bunch of tanks I want to sell. I'm looking for your opinion of what a good asking price would be for some of them.
110 gallon mirror back glass tank (48 inches x 30 inches x 18 inches), great conditions with just one little scuff in the mirror and a few small scratches down where the substrate/sand would fill. Pine stand, two doors.
55 gallon flat back hexagon tank, 4 feet long, 16 inches at the deepest part, 20 tall (I think, for sure 4 feet long) glass, nice stand with removable shelf, flush doors, and a sliding back for easy access. The stand was re-stained and is in perfect condition, the tank is immaculate. Lids included.
50 gallon 3 foot tank, glass, flush doors, some minor water staining on the bottom corner of the stand that can eb fixed with stain.
And then some "garbage" tanks of some beat up 55 gallon acrylic tanks with built in overflows, a 20 gallon with a one inch bulkhead drilled in the back - glass, and a 30 gallon glass tank.
What do you guys think is a fair asking price? How much should I expect? West coast area USA.
Really that cheap on the flat back hex? I looked online in my area and $150 is pretty standard for a hex with a stand. I've already had an offer for $100 on it.
I was thinking the same on the 110 gallon, I was thinking of asking $250 and going down to $150 if needed, but wasn't sure if that was still a viable price in this economy.
And to the other poster:
The $1 a gallon is usually for standard glass rectangular tanks, would apply to the 50 and other "garbage" tanks, but not the mirror back or hex which are more expensive to start with. That much I know. And stands that cheap? Usually they cost as much as the tank when buying new. These are not the garbage stands that come in a kit like you get from Walmart, they are solid wood custom stands.

i would pay nothing for any of them ... they have been sitting in your garage for years, who knows if they will even hold water ... any anyone who is into fish and has any knowledge about fish and fish tanks is not going to buy a giant used tank for a lot of money, it just is not worth the risk ... imagine having 110 gallons break open in your home ... i would not buy from you (not you personally, i mean a stranger) selling them and i would pay nothing for anyone selling what you have unless i new them and they were willing to prove the tank could hold water ... and the tanks you are calling "garbage" those are the ones you would have more success selling ... the number of people who want a 30 gallon is greater than anyone wanting 110 gallons ... and no only that, these days tanks are coming out looking more and more modern ... someone on my local forum was selling a large tank with a homemade stand, he had to give it away in the end because who wants to buy something that looks like it is from the 80's (mirrored backs, that is just tacky) ... and hex tanks are not sought after ... the majority of fish are lateral swimmers and hexs were created only to have a smaller footprint ... again, i would never by a hex tank ... i think you should donate to a school or offer at ridiculously low prices to people who will appreciate it ...

I'd say 150 dollars for the 1st one, possibly up too 200
Up too 75 dollars for the 55g
60 dollars for the 50g
Then for the others, I'd say up too 20-30 dollars each.
EDIT: I agree with the " eye " a little, but you should really check them over real good just too make sure, put a few gallons in each of them too see if it leaks. I would happily pay 15-20 dollars for the 30 gallon... But you sell them the prices you want, or you make them offer!;D
I think 100 dollars is okay, I mean you could buy yourself something nice?:P
Good luck.
